Cunard liner Lusitania torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine off the Old Head of Kinsale, near Queenstown, with great loss of life. The vessel was not armed. The Chancellor of the Exchequer issues a statement as to proposed liquor taxation. For the taxes on spirits there is to be substituted prohibition of the sale of immature spirits. The beer and wine duties are to be withdrawn.
