Strong German attacks under General von der Marwitz on new British line before Cambrai; six or seven divisions attacking from Crèvecœur to Vendhuille penetrate British positions as far as La Vacquerie, Gonnelieu, and Gouzeaucourt and take Lateau Wood, south of Masnières; La Vacquerie regained by British, and enemy driven back from Gouzeaucourt and the ridge east of the village; from Masnières northwards British positions intact and great numbers of Germans killed; Germans claim 4,000 prisoners and 60 guns.
