Great German Attack on British Third and Fourth Armies on a 50-mile front between the Scarpe and the Oise. British positions penetrated in certain places and men forced back to reserve line, to which they conform elsewhere; 40 German divisions identified. Announced fresh column landed in Portuguese East Africa, at Mozambique, in touch with Port Amelia column 100 miles inland. British destroyers Botha and Morris and French destroyers Mehl, Magor, and Bouclier sink two German torpedo-boats in the North Sea, and later, in action with five German destroyers, which had been bombarding Dunkirk, sink one and possibly two of them. No Allied losses, but Botha damaged. British monitors bombard Ostend.
