Fighting spreads to Messines Ridge; British pressed back to top of ridge and to Ploegsteert in the south; in the Armentières sector enemy crosses the Lys between Estaires and Bac St. Maur; he also crosses the Lawe at Lestrem, but is driven back; 6,000 prisoners and 100 guns claimed.
