Three Italian Armies progressing on a front of 30 miles; 10th Army forces passage of the Monticano, north of Oderzo; 12th Army carries Valdobbiadene and Mt. Cosen, three miles to the north; 8th Army captures Conegliano and Vittorio; 3rd Army across the Lower Piave at San Dona di Piave and Zenson; 33,000 prisoners. French reach outskirts of Guise. Serbian cavalry reach the Danube near Semendria. Italians occupy San Giovanni di Medua, Albania. Turks brought to battle five miles north of Kalat Shergat; 1,000 prisoners.

Belgians occupy Zeebrugge and Bruges; British 1st Army captures Denain. French attack in the German salient between the Oise and the Serre penetrating the Hunding line on a front of three miles. French reach neighbourhood of Vidin, on the Danube. President Wilson’s reply to Austrian Note; mere autonomy for Czechs and Yugo-Slavs will not suffice.

Raids on the Western front; British raid at Neuville; two German attempts between Armentières and Ploegsteert. Bulgarians who had crossed the Danube opposite Tultcha driven back by the Russians; 337 prisoners. Russians lose a mile and a half of their ground gained west of Riga.

Two actions in the North Sea off the Dutch coast: division of German destroyers encountered by British light forces; one enemy destroyer sunk, the others scattered; subsequent destroyer action off Schouwen Bank; British destroyer torpedoed and eventually sunk by British ships; 47 lives lost; German destroyer V 69 puts into Ymuiden badly battered, with many killed and wounded, including the division commander, Corvette-Captain Schültz, killed. German attacks on Riga front driven off. Bulgarians cross an arm of the Danube opposite Tultcha. Unsuccessful German attack at Verdun driven off. Sixteen British naval aeroplanes bombard blast furnaces of Burbach, in the Sarre basin. President Wilson’s speech in the United States Senate on peace; disapproval of a peace based on victory of either belligerent alliance.

Mr. Lloyd George on German peace offer and new Government’s war policy; formal reply to German Note to be given in full accord with Allies, who have each “separately and independently arrived at identical conclusions”; “restitution, reparation, and a guarantee against repetition” demanded; Government decided to recognize agents of M. Venizelos, to call an Imperial Conference, to take over shipping and mining, and to institute national service. Mackensen‘s Danube Army 25 miles from Braila; German 9th Army held up.

Rumanian Second Army at Fogaras retreating.
