Belgian, French, and British attack under King Albert on a 28-mile front from Dixmude to Wervicq, the British Fleet cooperating; to the north French carry Roulers and Belgians Iseghem, and farther north Cortemarck Station captured. French take Sissonne on the Hunding line. Italians occupy Durazzo and Tirana. British troops reach Irkutsk and leave for Krasnoyarsk.

British break the Rumilly-Beaurevoir-Fonsomme line between Cambrai and St. Quentin. On the Ypres front British take Ledeghem and cross the Lys between Wervicq and Comines. German withdrawal from Armentières, La Bassée, and Lille; British take Fleurbaix. Italian and British warships attack Durazzo, destroying the base and sinking Austrian torpedo-boat.

Arab forces north and south of Maan take 264 Turkish prisoners and demolish part of the Hedjaz railway. Italian destroyers attack an enemy convoy off Durazzo and sink a transport.

Naval Raid on Zeebrugge and Ostend by forces under Vice-Admiral Sir Roger Keyes; after intensive bombardment by monitors, cruiser Vindicative, Commander Carpenter, and auxiliaries Iris and Daffodil run alongside mole at Zeebrugge and land storming parties while three obsolete cruisers filled with concrete enter the harbour and two of them, the Iphigenia and Intrepid, are successfully sunk at the entrance of the Bruges Canal and an obsolete submarine run against piling of the mole and blown up; at Ostend two other block ships run ashore with a view to blocking up the harbour. British line advanced slightly near Robecq; 120 prisoners. Two British destroyers engage five Austrian destroyers in Adriatic; enemy fly for shelter to Durazzo.
