Germans drive in British advanced posts a short distance on a front of 700 yards near the Ypres-Staden railway. Two air attacks on the Kentish coast; one machine gets over the land, but is forced to descend, and crew captured; no casualties. Peace negotiations under presidency of Herr von Kühlmann opened at Brest-Litovsk.

War Office announce General Allenby occupied high ground east of Abu Dis, two miles south-east of Jerusalem; 117 prisoners. Enemy attacks east of the Brenta from Col Caprile to Mt. Pertica; enemy capture Mt. Asolone; over 2,000 prisoners claimed. Rostoff in Kaledin‘s hands. Air raid by six groups of raiders, of which five machines reach London; 10 killed, 70 injured; one raider brought down by gunfire off Kent coast and another believed destroyed in the Channel. Result of Canadian elections, showing large majority for Unionist Party.

Early morning air raid by groups of enemy machines to the number of 25; five or six get over London; seven killed and 22 injured; two raiders brought down. Rumania agrees to an armistice. Rising in Lisbon against Portuguese Government; Provisional Government under Dr. Sidonio Paes reaffirms solidarity with Allies. U.S. destroyer Jacob Jones torpedoed and sunk; 37 survivors.

About 20 German aeroplanes raid London at night; 11 killed and 62 injured; one enemy machine reported brought down in sea off Sheerness. Trade Union Congress at Blackpool decide against Stockholm Conference at present moment.

British line advanced 500 yards on a front of about a mile near Ypres-Menin road; farther north they advance half a mile on a two-and-a-half mile front; Lens invested from south, west, and north. German activity on the Dvina, 10 miles south of Riga; Russian line withdrawn from three to eight miles in the north. Ten enemy aeroplanes over Margate, Dover, and Ramsgate; 24 casualties; three raiders brought down and five of protecting German squadron awaiting their return lost.

Twenty German aeroplanes off Felixstowe; driven off by British airmen they turn south and attack Southend and Margate; 32 killed and 43 injured at Southend; a Gotha aeroplane destroyed during return of raiders to the Belgian coast.

Slight British advance east of Wytschaete. Great German raid on London by about 20 aeroplanes; 59 killed and 193 injured; four raiders brought down on return journey, one at mouth of Thames, two at sea 40 miles from the east coast, and a fourth off the mouth of the Scheldt; two British pilots and one observer killed, one pilot wounded, two British machines destroyed by enemy and two crashed from other causes. French aeroplanes bomb Treves, Coblentz, Ludwigshafen, and Essen as reprisal for German raids on Nancy and Epernay the day before.
