Allies hold the line of the Seine, the Marne, and the Meuse above Verdun. Anniversary of Sedan celebrated with great enthusiasm in Berlin. Austrians utterly defeated by Russians at Lemberg after seven days’ continuous fighting. Austrian losses 130,000 men, including prisoners, and 200 guns. National Relief Fund reaches £2,000,000. 1st British casualty list issued 5,127.

Mr. Lloyd George, Mr. Runciman, and Mr. Henderson hold a conference with leaders of South Wales miners at Cardiff.
